Community Voices: Healthcare for the Underserved at the Morehouse School of Medicine will engage public health dentistry, private practitioners, dental hygienists, dental service providers, and community leaders in a regional dialogue focused on addressing the state of oral healthcare in Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi and emerging opportunities to address oral health service gaps. This regional summit entitled “Learning and Leading: Options and Opportunities to Address Unmet Oral Health Needs” will begin with an opening reception from 6 pm – 8 pm on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 and continue on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 8 am – 5 pm at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino, 875 Beach Blvd, Biloxi, MS 39539. This event is free to attend. Registration is required and space is limited.
Although progress has been made towards improving oral healthcare among underserved children, Dental Health Professional Shortage Areas (DHPSAs) still persist in the states of Georgia, Florida and Mississippi. Additionally, disparities in service also persist for racial minorities and low-income citizens. There is an evident need to develop state-specific solutions that can aid in increasing the establishment of oral healthcare homes among these populations.
This summit is inclusive of a regional initiative that has focused on identifying the status, service gaps and community needs related to oral healthcare in Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi. Key topics for discussions will include workforce diversity, emerging workforce models, Medicaid reimbursement and access to care for vulnerable populations.
We are aware of your deep commitment to your work, as well as your busy schedule. However, we hope you will be able to join us as we foster the development of a regional network to address the oral health needs of underserved populations within our communities.
